The Honey Moon Day 1 Gettysburg

Okay we are in Gettysburg PA there was a museum and this bloody long drive through gettysburg looking at a million and one monuments. it was rainy and it was FREEZING! but it was beautiful! There is something very sacred about this place and it almost makes you want to whisper I got emotional a few times looking at the beautiful country and listening/reading to the stories of those few days. it was so amazing!!! I wish it was sunny so I could have enjoyed it more but I was so cold I didnt want to get out of the car! but we had a blast!

As I begin to CLEAN UP...my OFFICE.......I know...I know...you are all thinking..."It is about time!"....Well, what has been FUN...are the TREASURES I am finding that have been "hidden"...among my other treasures...I found this "Old Fashion" picture I had NOT scanned into my computer, yet...It is ABE's FACE...that grabs your attention in this one...

As I watched this little video clip this morning, I believe with all of my heart, there is an INSPIRED reason........I would like to challenge each member of this family....to take Elder Eyring's COUNSEL....Begin a little booklet or journal...and follow his inspired thoughts...."Did God send a message that was just for me this day - Did I see His hand in my life?" Your outlook on DAILY LIFE will have NEW MEANING....YOU WILL take on your approach to events in your life...with a different "flare"....YOU WILL FINE TUNE....your actions...which WILL give you the STRENGTH to endure any challenges you may face....I so plead with you...In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

I just saw Serene's Post this morning...regarding her children and MUD... http://serenedesigns.blogspot.com/ - but, could NOT resist resurrecting a few old pictures....There must be something about MUD that ATTRACTS young people...though, people do pay BIG BUCKS for MUD BATHS....But, on the ol' Smith homefront....we had MILLIONS of DOLLARS worth of MUD for FREE!!!

Here is what I wrote on JUNE 1998 regarding this "MUD FIGHT" at the Smith's:

"Those who participated: Dana and Katy Johnston, Daniel Holladay, David Joslyn, Carla (friend of Katy Johnston), Todd Pulver, Sarah Serene Smith, Daniel Milton, Matt Pulver, Angel Smith, Mindy Goodman, Katy (Liz Borchardt's friend), and Liz Borchardt."

"Took place in front of our house...They ended up clenaing up in our swimming pool...and later, showered in the house...) (though, Jennie Smith, Caleb Smith, and Curtis Maughn did not participate in the mud fight.)

Ah.....LOVE IT...when..."what goes around....comes around..." (smile)

There is NO POINT in me posting wedding or the beach pictures...Sarah did a GREAT job....!!!! Go to her BLOG and see.... http://serenedesigns.blogspot.com It really was a GREAT EVENT...and all the inbetween time...was FANTASTIC!!!! I am already pondering the next "family reunion".... Hope it will be for another wedding....(hmm....will it be Caleb or Abraham?) Bets anyone?.... Oh...forgot...I gave up gambling!!! (smile) Though, I could figure out the "odds"...(smile)

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war). It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May (passed by Congress with the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 - 363) to ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays), though several southern states have an additional separate day for honoring the Confederate war dead.
