There's an old saying that seems to apply: Creative minds are rarely tidy. I've used that often to explain my desk/workspace.

Looks like I don't need to clean my room now...
I'd excuse the messy room for making a good point. But then again, it takes a cluttered office to clutter your mind, distracting you from the goals of your work. And creative minds can't always benefit from distractions.
